Squad beginner guide: roles, rallies, and FOBs

New to Squad on Steam? Learn kits, squad roles, rally points, and FOB basics before worrying about advanced awareness tools.

Squad is Offworld Industries’ large-scale military shooter on Steam (393380). Matches are often 50 versus 50 with combined arms, capture points, and a ticket bleed system. New players drown in acronyms: SL, FTL, HAB, FOB, RAAS, LAT. This guide explains the skeleton of a match, roles, spawns, and logistics, so later reads on ESP by role or loader setup make sense in context.

Joining a squad and picking a kit

From the deploy screen, pick an open squad or create one. Squad leaders set locks, marks, and rally points. Kits are role-limited: medics, LAT, marksman, and crewman slots cap per team. Rifleman is the forgiving default. Support carries ammo bags; medic revives without wasting main spawn tickets when timed right.

  • Squad Leader (SL): spawns squad rally, places FOB radio, comms with other SLs.
  • Fire Team Lead: helps split the squad on attack.
  • Rifleman: backbone DMR or riflemen fights.
  • Medic: revives and stabilizes.
  • LAT / HAT: anti-tank for vehicles.
  • Crewman / Pilot: armor and air (map dependent).

Rally points vs main spawn

A rally is a temporary squad spawn placed by SL or designated roles. It has a limited number of spawns and goes down when enemies walk near or when overrun. Rallying near the cap saves travel time. Dying repeatedly burns your squad’s rally charges and team tickets. Main base spawn is safe but far, use rallies for attacks, FOBs for sustained presence.

FOBs, radios, and logistics

A Forward Operating Base needs a radio humvee or logi truck, build supplies, and a clear spot SL selects. Once built, the HAB lets many teammates spawn and re-arm. Enemies overrun FOBs by touching the HAB or destroying the radio. Logi drivers who deliver supplies quietly win more matches than lone wolves on hills. Deep dive in vehicles and logistics.

Objectives and tickets

Most pub layers use Advance and Secure (AAS) or RAAS with randomized caps. Holding flags bleeds enemy tickets; full elimination also ends games. Attack the flags SL marks. Wandering off cap to hunt snipers loses matches even if your personal K/D looks fine.

Comms etiquette

Local voice is proximity; squad channel is your nine teammates. Keep callouts short: direction, distance, kit. SL coordinates with command or other SLs on leader channels when enabled. Good comms matter more than any overlay; teamplay with awareness tools assumes you already talk.

Where awareness tools fit (later)

After ten vanilla hours, optional ESP or radar can reinforce what you learned, contact IDs, flank warnings. They do not teach ticket math or rally timing. Read what aimbot and ESP actually do before enabling modules on EAC official servers.
